Although I'm only a year late in reading this post, it was refreshing to see someone in the industry who's looking at "Real Time" BI as it currently (still) stands. The bottom line is that for the past 15 years or so, BI data handling has been nothing but the same old theme with almost endless variations (sometimes the term, "smoke and mirrors" even comes to mind). So far as I'm aware, there is only one radical, major, fundamental breakthrough in BI data handling and this is the recent innovation known as MSSO technology. MSSO is truly server-less and allows the end-user direct access to live, raw data. If you haven't yet familiarized yourself with it, you might give MSSO a look. Dig into it and you will not only see that this is something really new, it also portends a major paradigm shift for BI architecture (you heard it here first). Since I've written a rather enthusiastic White Paper on this, I'm admittedly biased. My preferences notwithstanding, MSSO is nothing short of revolutionary. Pls take the time to check it out. And, I'd be honored if you would also give my White Paper at least a cursory read: "TRANSFORMING EXCEL
into a powerful, versatile, completely secure
BI data-mining, analytics and reporting tool…
And all of this with IT’s blessing!". Thanks for your insightful post.

Hi Andy,

I was intrigued by your comment in this entry that "some techniques in software are emerging that tackle the problem in a more future-oriented way, but these are the exception today."

Could you elaborate in a future blog entry what these techniques are?

Best Regards,

Nenshad Bardoliwalla
